A fake spiritualist has been sentenced to one year in prison after defrauding an Indian woman of $1,100 and allegedly blackmailing her with a secretly recorded nude spiritual-bath video in Abuja.

Justice C.N. Nwabulu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, convicted and sentenced Solomon Odigie Moses, also known as Dr. Solomon, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Moses was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on cheating and impersonation after allegedly posing as a spiritual leader and obtaining $1,100 from an Indian woman who was seeking spiritual healing.

Fake Spiritualist Collected $1,100 Through Zelle

According to the case, Moses was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, after receiving and laundering the $1,100 through his Zelle payment platform. The naira equivalent was subsequently paid into his local bank account.

The suspect allegedly operated a fictitious TikTok account where he presented himself as a spiritual leader known as Dr Solomon.

Investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed that the victim, identified as Sharon Kaur, initially paid the money for spiritual prayers and assistance.

The case took a more disturbing turn when Moses allegedly persuaded the woman to undergo a naked spiritual bath.

He reportedly recorded the session live without her consent and subsequently threatened to make the video public unless she sent him money.

The EFCC investigation established that the victim paid a total of $1,100 to the suspect in an attempt to prevent him from releasing the nude video publicly.

The incident forms part of a growing pattern of online fraud in which criminals allegedly use deception, intimate images and threats to extort victims.

Fake Spiritualist Pleads Guilty

The charge against Moses stated that he fraudulently impersonated a spiritual leader using a fictitious TikTok account and obtained $1,100 from Sharon Kaur for spiritual prayer and assistance.

The charge alleged that the offence was contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code Act (Abuja), LFN 1990, and punishable under Section 322 of the same Act.

Moses pleaded guilty to the charge.

Following his plea, prosecution counsel Maryam Hayatudeen urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

In his ruling, Justice Nwabulu convicted Moses and sentenced him to one year imprisonment, with an option of a N300,000 fine.

The conviction brings the case against the fake spiritualist to a close following the prosecution’s evidence and his guilty plea.

The case also highlights the risks associated with online spiritual-healing scams and the use of intimate recordings to carry out sextortion.
