The Oyo Police fake Euro arrest operation has led to the detention of six suspects and the recovery of 89 suspected counterfeit €100 notes worth €8,900.
The arrests were made on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during a township patrol in the *Labo–Wesley area of Oyo State by operatives of the Oyo State Police Command.
According to the Command, officers intercepted three men on a motorcycle at about 7:30 p.m. A search led to the discovery of 89 pieces of suspected counterfeit €100 notes.
The police identified the suspects as Tijani Saheed, 50; Oni Oladapo, 67; Adebayo Saheed, 52; and Hammed Karemu, 25.
Saheed was allegedly found in possession of the fake currency. Oladapo was alleged to have supplied the notes. Adebayo was the second passenger, while Karemu was the motorcycle rider.
During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed and led investigators to where the suspected counterfeit Euro notes were purchased.
A forensic search of the premises led to the recovery of exhibits allegedly used in producing the fake notes.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of the alleged producer, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to six.
The Command said all six suspects of the Oyo police fake euro arrest remain in custody and are cooperating with investigators. They will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the officers for vigilance and professionalism.
He assured residents and legitimate businesses that the Command will continue to disrupt criminal networks and tackle economic and financial crimes in the state.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged involvement of each suspect of Oyo police fake euro arrest remain subject to further investigation, police said.
