The Lagos Assembly audit report 2024 review has commenced as the House Committee on Public Accounts (Local) begins scrutiny of the accounts of Lagos State’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
The two-week exercise started with officials from Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Badagry, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ikeja, Oriade and Ifako-Ijaiye LGAs appearing before the Committee. The audit covers financial activities for the year ended December 31, 2024.

Speaking at the commencement, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Prince Nureni Akinsanya, said the exercise is part of the House’s statutory duty to ensure public funds entrusted to councils are properly accounted for.
He noted that chairmen of LGAs and LCDAs, alongside relevant officials, will respond to issues raised in the Auditor-General’s report and provide documentary evidence to support their submissions.
”The exercise is not to witch-hunt anyone,” Akinsanya stated. “It is to enable the Committee to discharge its responsibilities objectively, transparently and without bias.”

The Committee will ascertain whether revenues accruing to the councils during the period were judiciously utilised and properly accounted for. Expenditures will also be subjected to thorough scrutiny.
Akinsanya added that findings and recommendations from the Lagos Assembly audit report 2024 process will be presented to the House for consideration and appropriate action.
He urged council officials to cooperate fully and ensure prompt provision of requested documents, records and explanations throughout the exercise.
