Tinubu Seeks Reforms In Criminal Justice Administration

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his determination to reform criminal justice administration in Nigeria.

‎To that effect, the President has transmitted a legislative proposal to the Senate.

‎The bill seeks to repeal the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and re-enact the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2026.

‎The proposed law would provide for the establishment of a Criminal Justice Monitoring Council for courts in the Federal Capital Territory and other federal courts across the country.

‎In the communication to the Senate, President Tinubu said the proposed legislation would address procedural gaps and identified challenges that have, over time, hindered the quick dispensation of justice.

‎It is also intended to reflect developments in criminal justice, the deployment of technology and innovations, as well as other measures for effective compliance and implementation by concerned institutions.
