NNPC N66 Petrol Discount Ends October 31, Not Subsidy Restoration

NNPC N66 petrol discount

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC N66 petrol discount will continue until October 31, 2026. The Chief Communication Officer, Andy Odeh, made the clarification in statement on Friday, saying that the initiative is a temporary customer relief measure and not a restoration of fuel subsidy.

The company said the discount, initially introduced on October 1 to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, would remain available at NNPC Retail stations nationwide to help cushion the impact of rising petrol prices on Nigerians.

In a statement, NNPC Limited reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to ease the burden of elevated global crude oil prices linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The company noted that higher petrol prices have increased transportation costs and business operating expenses, putting additional pressure on households and livelihoods.

According to NNPC Limited, the discount is intended to provide direct relief to customers during the period of heightened uncertainty in the global oil market.

The company’s clarification followed a statement by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on October 8, 2026.

NNPC Limited said it would continue working with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices on households, businesses and the wider economy.

NNPC N66 Petrol Discount Is Not Fuel Subsidy

The national oil company stressed that the N66 petrol discount should not be interpreted as the reintroduction of petroleum subsidy.

It explained that the initiative was designed as a customer relief programme and did not change the market-based pricing framework governing petroleum products in Nigeria.

According to the company, the discount applies specifically to NNPC Retail outlets and does not establish a uniform petrol pump price across the country.

NNPC Limited urged Nigerians to disregard claims suggesting that the continuation of the discount amounted to a restoration of fuel subsidy.

The company maintained that the initiative was part of its efforts to provide practical support to consumers while operating within a commercially responsible framework.

NNPC Extends Independence Anniversary Discount Nationwide

NNPC Limited introduced the N66 discount on October 1, 2026, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The company subsequently announced that the offer would continue until October 31, 2026, across its retail stations nationwide.

The extension is expected to provide customers visiting participating NNPC Retail outlets with continued relief amid elevated petrol prices.

NNPC Limited said the initiative reflected the government’s approach to providing practical assistance to Nigerians during a period of uncertainty in international energy markets.

However, the company reiterated that the discount does not represent a return to the former fuel subsidy regime or a change in the existing market-based pricing policy.

NNPC Reassures Nigerians on Petrol Supply

Beyond the discount, NNPC Limited reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining reliable petroleum product supplies and responsible customer service.

The company said it would continue collaborating with the government and industry stakeholders to help reduce the burden of rising fuel costs on Nigerians.

It also pledged to provide clear information about its products, pricing arrangements and customer relief initiatives to enable consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.

NNPC Limited appreciated Nigerians for their continued patronage and support, adding that it remained committed to transparent communication and commercially sustainable operations.

The company reiterated that the N66 petrol discount is a temporary customer relief measure, with the stated end date of October 31, 2026, and should not be confused with the restoration of fuel subsidy.
