Following the Rescue of 20 abducted corps members in Imo State, the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), has commended security agencies.
NDLEA boss also praised the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies for the rescue of another victim in the South-East, describing the operation as a victory for the nation.
Reacting to the development, Marwa said the safe return of the prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated, intelligence-driven security operations.
He described the rescue as evidence of the courage, professionalism and cooperation among Nigeria’s security agencies in tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities.
“The safe return of these young Nigerians to their families is a testament to the courage, professionalism and unity of purpose of our security agencies,” Marwa said.
He added that corps members represented the country’s future and deserved adequate protection as they prepared to serve the nation.
“Our corps members are the nation’s best, serving their fatherland with hope and idealism. Nigeria owes them protection, and today our gallant men and women have delivered,” he stated.
Marwa Hails Security Agencies Over Rescue of 20 abducted corps members
The NDLEA chairman, a retired military officer, stressed the importance of recognising the achievements of security personnel involved in rescue operations across the country.
Marwa said the successful rescue of the 20 abducted corps members and another victim deserved public commendation, particularly amid ongoing efforts to address insecurity.
“As a retired military officer serving under the renewed hope administration of President Bola Tinubu, it is imperative for us to draw public attention to this kind of achievement by our security agencies and equally commend them,” he said.
He also acknowledged other successful rescue operations carried out by security agencies in recent months, noting that such interventions had helped reunite abducted victims with their families and restore hope to affected communities.
“Every life rescued is a triumph for our collective resolve. These operations show that criminals cannot outrun a determined and united security architecture,” Marwa added.
Marwa reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to supporting other security agencies through intelligence-sharing, cooperation and joint operations aimed at tackling criminal activities.
He noted that drug trafficking and substance abuse could contribute to violent crime, kidnapping and banditry, stressing the need to disrupt the networks that enable criminal activities.
“Where drugs flow, insecurity thrives. That is why the NDLEA will keep working with sister agencies to dismantle the networks that fund and fuel criminality, and we will deepen intelligence-sharing and joint operations,” he said.
The NDLEA chairman maintained that tackling drug-related criminality remained an important part of broader national security efforts.
The NDLEA boss urged security agencies to sustain their operational momentum and continue working together to protect lives and property across Nigeria.
He also called on Nigerians to support security forces by providing timely and credible information that could assist investigations, prevent crimes and facilitate rescue operations.
Marwa wished the rescued corps members a speedy recovery and a safe reunion with their families.
He reiterated the importance of cooperation among security agencies and members of the public in addressing kidnapping, drug-related offences and other security threats across the country.
