A state High Court sitting in Akwa Ibom has sentenced Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for the murder of Iniubong Umoren.
Justice Bassey Nkanang delivered the judgment on Thursday.
Umoren, a graduate of Philosophy, University of Uyo, was killed in April 2021. She was job hunting while awaiting mobilisation for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Uduak-Abasi Akpan had reportedly lured Iniubong Umoren, who was 26 years old, to his family residence at Nung Ikono Obio village in Uruan Local Government Area with a job offer.
When she showed up, he raped, murdered and buried her.
However, Uduak’s father, Frank Akpan, and his sister, Anwan Bassey, who were 2nd and 3rd defendants were discharged and acquitted.
