Ogun Assembly Members Impeach Speaker Over Poor Leadership Style, Misappropriation Of Funds

Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have impeached their speaker, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo over alleged poor leadership, misappropriation of funds among other offenses.

On the other hand, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide has been elected and sworn-in as the new Speaker for the Assembly.

Hon. Oludaisi Elemide is a member representing Odeda state constituency.

Hon. Olakunle Oluomo was impeached by simple majority after 18 out of 26 assembly members supported the impeachment.

The lawmaker representing Obafemi Owode, Hon. Damilola Soneye, who addressed journalists, accused the impeached Speaker of funds diversion, embezzlement and high handedness among other offences.

Other members of the House also alleged that the ousted Speaker had failed to carry everyone along in his administration of the Assembly, giving the assurance that the move was not targeted at the executive arm of the government or the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

Meanwhile, the newly elected Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide has described his emergence as the collective decision of members to reposition the Assembly.

He promised to uphold the rule of law and protect the interest of all members.

The new speaker expressed the determination of the House to ensure passage of the people-oriented bills that would ensure good governance in tune with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s bid to better the lot of the state.
