Addressing concerns about his political relationship with Governor Seyi Makinde, Adekanmbi dismissed the suggestion that he could become a political stooge if elected governor.

According to the APM candidate, Makinde himself would not expect him to operate as a stooge and has encouraged him to develop his own political path.

Adekanmbi said Governor Makinde recently advised residents to build personal relationships with him, stressing that the governor would not be expected to unnecessarily influence his decisions.

‎He added that he had independently developed relationships and networks across different parts of Oyo State.

‎“I think I would be a stooge to the over 7.5 million people of Oyo State,” Adekanmbi said.

The former finance commissioner said his ambition to govern Oyo State is driven by competence, experience and a commitment to the broader interests of residents.

Adekanmbi maintained that his understanding of governance was shaped by practical experience, having served in different government capacities and interacted with successive administrations in the state.

He said he had maintained relationships with former governors of Oyo State and benefited from their experiences, visions and reflections on governance.

According to him, those relationships exposed him to both the successes and challenges of previous administrations.

‎Adekanmbi specifically recalled his experience during the administration of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, saying he played a significant role in the administration following his recall to the cabinet after its dissolution.

‎He said his experience working within government had given him an understanding of the opportunities available to Oyo State as well as the challenges that need to be addressed.

On the issue of continuity, Adekanmbi stressed that a future administration should not abandon policies and projects that are delivering positive results simply because there has been a change in government.

He said areas where existing government programmes are working should be sustained, while policies and sectors requiring improvement should receive greater attention.

The APM candidate’s position places emphasis on combining continuity with reforms aimed at delivering better outcomes for residents.

Adekanmbi emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo State in May 2026.

‎ Since his emergence, he has embarked on engagements with party stakeholders and residents across the state as part of preparations for the 2027 governorship election.

His campaign has continued to focus on his experience in public service, his understanding of Oyo’s political landscape and his pledge to place the interests of residents at the centre of governance.

With the 2027 election approaching, Bimbo Adekanmbi is positioning himself as a candidate offering a combination of experience, independence and people-centred leadership to voters in Oyo State.
