Some motorcyclists popularly known as “okada riders” on Wednesday stormed the Oyo State Secretariat in protest of one of them, who was allegedly killed after he was hit with a ring charm by members of Park Management System.
The incident, which reportedly occurred along Adamasingba-Queen Cinema road in Ibadan on Wednesday afternoon, seeing the angry protesters occupied the main gate of the secretariat, thereby causing traffic for several hours.
Many people who have one or two things to do at secretariat were stranded as the all gates leading to the secretariat were locked.
It was gathered that the man refused to pay extra ₦50 after paying legitimate ticket fee of ₦100. And altercation ensued between him and the PMS guys.
One of the protesters who refused to mention his name, said that the deceased had engaged in a heated argument with men of the Park Management System for refusing to pay for a ticket, a situation which later led to physical combat between them.
Another witness, Owolabi Abiodun, revealed that the deceased, identified Damilare died immediately on the spot before being rendered any assistance to save his life.
He said further that two of the PMS men involved were immediately arrested and handed over to the police.
Reacting to the incident, the Executive Assistant to the governor of Oyo state on Security Matters, Sunday Odukoya, said that the matter has been reported at the police station, and police will carry out their investigation.
