Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate proscription of NURTW operations in Osun State following the killing of Mr. Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir.
Oyeyemi was reportedly shot dead on Sunday in Ile-Ife by suspected hoodlums during a clash involving rival factions over control of a motor park in the ancient city.
The governor’s directive was contained in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
Following the deadly clash, Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police in the state to immediately arrest all individuals linked to the killing and ensure that they are brought to justice.
The governor also ordered all warring factions to immediately vacate motor parks across the state as part of efforts to prevent further violence and restore normalcy.
Security agencies were directed to take control of the affected parks and ensure the maintenance of law and order.
As part of the measures accompanying the suspension of NURTW operations in Osun, Governor Adeleke directed security agencies to ensure that motor parks remain free from activities capable of triggering further clashes.
The directive is aimed at restoring peace and preventing a recurrence of violence linked to disputes over the control and management of motor parks.
Governor Adeleke also announced the reintroduction of a Park Management System across Osun State.
According to the statement, the governor will issue an Executive Order to provide legal backing for the new system.
The administration is expected to use the arrangement as part of broader efforts to regulate motor park activities and address recurring disputes among transport workers and rival factions.
The latest measures followed growing concerns over violence arising from disputes within the transport sector.
By proscribing NURTW operations in Osun, ordering the vacation of motor parks by warring factions and restoring the Park Management System, the state government said it was taking immediate steps to restore law and order.
The governor also reiterated his directive for security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killing of Ajagungbade Emir.
