Oke Ogun Obas Pass Vote Of No Confidence On Aseyin, Appoint Okere As Acting Chairman

Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola

The Oke Ogun Obas and Chiefs Association has passed a vote of no confidence on its chairman, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola David Ajirotutu Adeyeri IV, over allegations of maladministration and conduct said to undermine the dignity of the traditional institution in Oke Ogun.

‎The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held on Tuesday at the palace of the Onjo of Okeho in Kajola Local Government Area.

‎In a communique issued after the meeting, the monarchs said the gathering was convened to deliberate on “critical issues bordering on the administration of the association and other related public issues which may dent the image of the Oke Ogun traditional institution dignity, ethics and respected culture inherited from our predecessors.”

‎The monarchs accused the Aseyin of engaging in conduct inconsistent with the ethics, culture and values expected of an Oke Ogun traditional ruler. They alleged he had been using the association’s name and instruments for personal interests and acting without the consent of the executive council.

‎Specifically, the monarchs claimed the Aseyin collected the association’s official letterhead from the secretary under “false pretence” and wrote to President Bola Tinubu through the office of the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, without the knowledge or approval of the executive council.

‎They also accused him of unilaterally postponing the association’s meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2026, to June 25, 2026, without ratification by executive members.

‎The monarchs said the resolutions were aimed at protecting the association from another round of internal crisis, noting that the body was only recovering from years of factionalisation.

‎Consequently, the meeting passed a vote of no confidence on the Aseyin of Iseyin as chairman and directed that he should no longer represent the association in any official or unofficial capacity.

‎The immediate past chairman, the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, was appointed to take over the administration of the association alongside other executive members indefinitely.

‎The meeting also resolved that the ongoing amalgamation and restructuring of the association, including the drafting of its constitution, should continue uninterrupted.

‎Present at the meeting were the Onigbeti of Igbeti, Oba Bashir Abioye; Ajoriwin of Irawo, Oba Musiliudeen Olalere; Elero of Ilero, Oba Wasiu Saka; Olu-Igbo of Igbojaye, Oba Olatunji Oladimeji; Oloje of Oje-Owode, Oba Abdrasheed Olagbenro; Onitede of Tede, Oba Abdul Rauf Adebimpe; and Onjo of Okeho, Oba Rafiu Osuolale Mustapha Adeitan.

‎Others included Aare of Ofiki, Oba Gbenga Adigun Adeoye Oyetunji Oyinlola II; Oloto of Ago-Aare, Oba Omofewa; Onigbope, Oba Moses Oyetola; Bagiìjàn of Ilaji-Ile, Oba Lawal Oyeleye; Onidiko of Idiko-Ile, Oba Nicolas Oyelami Folaranmi; Alageere of Ago-Are, Oba Azeez Oyetunde; Alageere of Ofiki, Oba Bashir Oyesiji; Ona-Onibode of Igboho, Oba Rasheed Jayesola; and Oni Baasi, Oba Sunday Babatunde, among others.
