Stampede: Court Denies Ooni’s Ex-Wife, Oriyomi, Principal Bail

The High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State capital has denied the bail applications of the ex-wife of Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, Proprietor of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat and the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Abdullahi Fasasi.

Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Abiodun Aikomo leads the prosecution team.

The prosecution team opposed the bail application, pleading for more time to investigate the matter.

Justice Olawoyin of Court 8, therefore, adjourned Naomi’s case till next week.

The Court commenced the hearing of the bail applications filed by Hamzat, Naomi, and Fasasi on Tuesday amid tight security.

The defendants were arrested over the stampede that occurred at the Children’s Festive Party in December 2024 at the Islamic High School, at Bashorun area, Ibadan.

The stampede claimed the lives of at least 35 children.

However, the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, had insisted that those involved in the stampede must face trial.

The governor further said that he is against the suspects being granted bail in the case.

Makinde disclosed that the case must be heard regardless of the status of those involved.

He made the disclosure during the annual interfaith programme held on Monday.
