Former Senate Leader and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin and four governorship aspirants of the party, on Wednesday boycotted a peace meeting convened by the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
The absentee governorship aspirants are former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, Barr Akeem Agbaje, Hakeem Alao, and former Deputy Governor, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan.
The meeting was held in Ibadan for the presentation of findings by the state reconciliation committee to the National Chairman.
It will be recalled that the committee, headed by Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, was set up to resolve the post-primary election crisis within the Oyo APC.
Despite the absence of the aspirants, Yilwatda said the reconciliation process would continue, describing the APC as ‘one big family’.
“The APC is a family. Whatever that is happening in the party is a family issue. It is normal for members of the same family to have challenges, but we are happy that the issues are being addressed as a family,” he said.
The National Chairman added that reports from the reconciliation committee and other stakeholders showed the party was stable ahead of the next elections.
“Also from the report that we gathered from the reconciliation committee and other stakeholders, the party is stable and we are good to go,” Yilwatda stated.
The boycott highlights lingering divisions within the Oyo APC following its governorship primary, even as the national leadership insists the crisis is being managed internally.
