Politics and party sentiment apart, the development of our community, our constituency, our state and our country should remain utmost priority and major concern, in particular whenever it is time for elections or selection of people for appointments or into political offices. Nigeria is 62 years of age; it is a shame if a man in that age range still finds it difficult to feed himself, let alone take care of his children. But if I may ask, who are those people responsible for the predicaments of a 62 years old man that is still struggling to crawl? The answers to the question will split in different ways, while some will say the leaders are responsible for the present situation of Nigeria; some will say it is the followers. However, I will shift the larger percentage of the blame to the followers, because there can not be smoke without fire. It means that bad followers produce bad leaders.
Like the saying, there will be light at the end of the tunnel. Here comes the 2023 general elections, here comes another opportunity to right the wrongs, another opportunity to change bad leaders and another opportunity to give our constituency, our senatorial district, our state and our country a new hope of better future not for us alone, but for generations to come.
We have seen the ability of our representatives at various political positions, we have seen the ability of those that have been there for the past 20, 16, 12, 8 and four years and we can confirm what they have done with our resources at their disposal. This shows that we have the chance to determine either to allow them to continue to represent us or to tell them enough is enough. Looking at the federal constituencies in Oyo State, there are 14 including Oyo Federal which is my focus. Oyo Federal Constituency consists of four local governments, Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West.
In the last 15 years, going to 16, the same Oyo Federal constituency has been governed by two individuals. Between 2007 and 2015 Hon. Mudashiru Kamil Akinlabi was the occupier of the seat, while Prince Akeem Adeyemi has occupied the same position since 2015, her terms will last next year 2023. This indicated that the two individuals have spent 16 years without any significant development that have been attracted to the constituency especially when comparing constituents’ resources at their disposal.
Sizing their ability to deliver good governance by facilitating laudable projects to improve infrastructures, creating job opportunity and enhance standard of living of the people that gave them the mandate, it is crystal clear that Oyo Federal Constituency is seriously lagging behind, and it is a demonstration that the two have wasted the precious time of the people of the constituency because they lack what is required to occupy the position.. The bone of contention and the imagination that worries the mind is that the two individuals, Hon. Mudashiru Kamil Akinlabi and Prince Kamil Akinlabi are contestants in the coming general elections to represent the constituents for the 3rd term. Constitutionally, they have the right to contest as many times as they want, however, it is also the call of the people of Oyo Federal constituency to reject them because they underutilized the opportunity given to them. The people of Oyo Federal constituency can not continue to plant seeds in a barren land, enough is enough.
However, the light that will come at the end of the dark tunnel of Hon. Akeem Adeyemi is an illustrious son of the soil, capable, reliable, accessible, and a philanthropist par excellence.
Here are the vital facts you need to know about the credible alternative that will bring about the necessary but missing development to Oyo Federal constituency.
