For leaking information on how the government is borrowing to pay salaries, the Federal Government has sacked Mr. Chukwuyere Anamekwe as the acting Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF).
He was replaced two weeks ago with AGF Mr. Okolieaboh Ezeoke Sylvis, a former TSA (Treasury Single Account) Director.
Anamekwe, who was appointed acting AGF on May 22. Was replaced following allegations that he was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He also allegedly revealed the government’s secret of borrowing to pay salaries, which the concerned authority was not comfortable with.
Anamekwe made the controversial remark on government borrowing to pay salaries on June 14. He was replaced seven days later.
Mr. Sylva bowed out of office the first quarter of 2023.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has initiated a search for a new AGF, and it was contained in a circular issued by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mrs. Folasade Yemi-Esan.
In a memo titled: “Commencement of the process of appointment of a substantive Accountant-General of the Federation”, the HoCSF directed permanent secretaries to forward details of eligible directors on Grade 17 to her on or before 4:00 pm on Wednesday July 6, 2022.
