2023: Tinubu Emerges APC Standard Bearer, Defeats Amaechi, Osinbajo, Others With 1,271 Votes

Former Lagos governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged the standard bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu, in an indirect primary election held at the Eagles Square, Abuja, received total votes 1,271from the party delegates to defeat the former Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the second and third position respectively.

Amaechi polled total votes of 316, while Osinbajo polled total votes of 235.

The presidential primary went to a vote after efforts by the party hierarchy to select a consensus candidate failed, despite negotiations on different levels.

Tinubu and the APC will have Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to contend with in next February’s general elections.
