A former member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Aderemi Adebayo has disclosed qualities the party will look out for while screening the aspirants to represent the party in Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency.
The former lawmaker stated that it is below expectation to compare politics at the local government or state levels to the politics at the national level.
Hon. Adebayo gave the clarification recently while speaking as one of the leaders in the local government on Saturday.
He said that not less than nine aspirants are jostling for the APC ticket to represent Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency in the coming election, saying that this requires thorough screening of the aspirant to be able to pick the best out of them.
Hon. Adebayo disclosed that politics at the national level required a person that has intellectual prowess, good antecedents and good communication skills that enable him to stand among the equals.
He identified that all these qualities will help him to contribute meaningfully to the development and progress of the nation and bring development to his constituency.
The former House of Representatives said luck, hooliganism and opportunity may play vital role in helping some people to become a local government chairman or state hounorable, he, however, said that it is not the same at the national level.
He assured all APC members and supporters that the party will not play to the gallery this time around in providing a credible candidate that is academically balanced, intellectually okay and with good antecedents within his people in the local government.
Hon. Adebayo reiterated that he is the leader of all but was fortunate to belong to ward six where one of the aspirants, Hassan Giwa comes from. He added that he will speak the same way if other aspirants call him for their declaration as well.
He assured the teeming supporters of the APC that when the time comes for all leaders to speak on the way forward and decide on the modalities to be adopted, a round peg spirant will be picked to fill the round hole.
