The Chairman of DAKA Foundation, Dr. Kazeem Adesina Abidikugu has officially declared his interest to represent Ibadan South East/North East federal constituency in the House of Representatives in the 2023 general election.

The event, which witnessed hundreds of the Peoples Democratic Party supporters across the constituency, thronged the historic Mapo Hall, venue of the official declaration on Thursday.  Dr. Abidikugu, who made his intention known to the leaders, executive and members of the PDP, said that his decision to vie for a seat in the House of Representatives was informed by the yearning of the people of the constituency who are clamouring for good and quality representation.

Addressing the supporters, he assured that if given the privilege to represent the people of the constituency, he will focus more on complimenting the efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde to improve lives of the people at the constituency level in Oyo State.

According to him, “there is one person who has inspired me a lot and one of the reasons why I actually decided to come around and that person is our governor, Engr, Seyi Makinde for the wonderful and tremendous works that he is doing. He is our leader and I believe with what he is doing it will be more obvious if we have other people that share similar vision and mission with him, and that is another thing I am bringing on board, to align with executive governor so that all the good deeds that he has in mind , all his efforts to make this state the real pace setter is complimented at the constituency level and I also believed that if all members representing the state are working together with the governor the state would have moved to where we want it to be.”

Dr. Abidikugu assured the people of the constituency that he will consolidate on what he has been doing through his DAKA Foundation on education, health, empowerment of widows and youths to ensure better life for all and sundry.

He noted that the various programmes of his foundation, thus far, to include, presentation of cash gifts to widows and youths, sponsoring free eyes surgeries, funding treatment for malaria, diabetes, hypertension, cataract and other health issues were only a tip of the iceberg if elected member representing Ibadan South East/North East in the 2023 general election.

In committing to the efficient representation, he promised to hold regular constituency meetings, such that only specific needs demanded by his constituents are promoted on the floor of the House of Representatives.

“One of the reasons I am putting myself forward is because I have realized that 2023 is very important for this nation and we don’t have any option this time around, we need to get it right, that was the reason I left my comfort zone to put myself forward. I have realized that in the legislative arm of government there is a lot of misrepresentation, most of the time we don’t have proper representation because people don’t have access to those who are representing them and this is not supposed to be. One thing I want to assure the people of Ibadan South East/North East federal constituency is accessibility, because I believe if people have access to you that is when you will know where the shoe pinches, that is when you will know what they need. What I am bringing on board that will be different is that I will be there every time for the people of my constituency, one of my visions is to represent my constituency and give the people a very good and real representation, by organizing meetings with them regularly to listen to their complaints and proffer solutions to them based on their complaints. I am assuring everybody from both Ibadan South East and Ibadan North East Local Governments that if given the opportunity, if given the privilege to represent them the first thing I will ensure is accessibility,” Dr. Abidikugu said.

The Chairman, Ibadan South East Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Alawode, said that Peoples Democratic Party has become a party to beat in the federal constituency, declaring that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is retrogressing.

He said he was at the event to fraternize with Dr. Abidikugu, who he described as a thorough member of the party. The council boss, therefore, called on leaders of the party to rally round him in his ambition.

The Ibadan-based Fuji maestro, Alhaji Taye Adebisi Currency added glamour to the event, which had in attendance leaders and members of the PDP across the constituency.
