Former CBN Boss, Soludo Emerges Anambra Governor Elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Charles Soludo as winner of the governorship election in Anambra State.

The announcement was concluded in the early hours of Wednesday.

Prof. Florence Obi from the University of Calabar, who was the Returning Officer, declared Professor Charles Soludo as winner of the election at the end of the collation of the supplementary election held in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor defeated his closest rivals in the race with a wide margin.

According to Professor Obi, “that Charles Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

Soludo became the second governor of the apex bank to become a state Governor in Nigeria after the late Clement Isong of Cross River.

He was the governor of the CBN between 2004 and 2009.

He won 19 of the 21 local governments areas including Ihiala LGA.

Soludo won with a total of 112,229 votes defeating Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 53,807 votes.

A senator and candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Andy Uba, scored 43,285 votes, while Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) polled 21,261 votes.
