Southern Governors Agree on Rotational Presidency, Reject Secret Security Operations, Others

The governors under the umbrella of Southern Governors’ Forum have agreed to a rotational presidency between the North and the Southern parts of Nigeria.

This was part of the resolutions at the end of their meeting in Lagos on Monday.

The Forum also resolved that governors must be adequately informed before any operation should be carried out by any security operative.

It was also part of the Forum’s resolve that they are not in support of any selective criminal administration of justice.

The Forum, therefore, set a timeline for 1st of September 2021 for the promulgation of the anti open grazing law in all its member states.

On the PIB bill: The Forum rejects three percent for the host communities, and supports the five percent share of oil profit proposed by the House of Representatives.

The forum also rejected the proposed thirty percent share of profit exploration of oil and gas basins and the ownership structure of the Nigeria Petroleum Commission Limited.

On election matters, the Southern Governors’ Forum rejected the removal of electronic transmission of results in the electoral act and the exclusive jurisdiction of pre-election matters on the Federal High Court.

The Forum, therefore, chose Lagos state as its permanent secretariat.
