In a bid to engage youths positively and build their capacity through sports, a philanthropist and Founder of Hassan Olawale Giwa (HOG) Foundation, Arc. Hassan Giwa has organized a football competition among clubs within Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency in Oyo State.

The soccer event which will kick off on Friday, 18th June, 2021 with the opening match between Monaco FC and Adecorum FC, is in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA), Lagelu and Akinyele Local Governments chapters.

While speaking during the draw and unveiling of the competition, the cup donor, Arc. Giwa, expressed that the competition is in line with the agenda of the foundation in terms of giving back to the society and creating a better tomorrow for the youth.

“The HOG football competition is in line with our aims and objectives at Hassan Olawale Giwa Foundation. We put the competition together with support from the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Lagelu and Akinyele Local Governments chapters to positively engage our youths and avail them opportunity to showcase their talent to the world.

“I know that there are lots of untapped talents which this competition will bring out, and that is my major focus. The competition may offer life time opportunities for some of the players where their talent might be scouted and from there begin to make a good living out of the round leather game.

Giwa, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while speaking further on the activities of the HOG Foundation in the last sixteen years, disclosed that the foundation has been contributing to the development of the society through various support schemes.

HOG Founder assured the coaches that the competition will be a continuous event to give the state’s promising talents an opportunity to demonstrate what they can do best.

He promised to give necessary support to the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Lagelu and Akinyele Local Government chapters in their forthcoming training and workshop for their members.

Giwa commended the leadership of the coaches association for doing a great job in developing grassroots football in the state, adding that the competition will further complement their efforts in that area.

Earlier in their addresses, the General Secretary and Financial Secretary, Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Oyo State, Coach Akinwumi Isogun and Coach Wahab Oloke, commended the donor for the gesture to support the grassroots football development.

They said that the gesture will go a long way in talent discovery, which will in return contribute to the development of Nigeria Football.

While soliciting for support for their members in terms of training and workshops to enhance their capacity and education, They charged the coaches to appeal to their members to conduct themselves in a good manner.

The coaches also appealed to the donor to make the competition a yearly event and also to extend it to other local governments.
