Quarry Kidnapped Victims Regain Freedom, Rescued By Police, Local Hunters, Vigilante

A combined effort by men of the Oyo State Police Command, local hunters and vigilante operatives have led to the rescue of three quarry workers in Ibadan.

Also rescued was a lady who was among the abductees at Idi Ayunre, along Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The three quarry workers identified as Ubong Jacob, Amisu Isaac, Wasiu and the lady, Adeoti Tosin, regained their freedom on Friday at about 6:20 pm.

All the victims were rescued unhurt.
They were said to have been brought out of the bush by police operatives who had been on the kidnappers’ trail since the day of the incident.

It was gathered that the operatives, including the Divisional Police Officer at Idi Ayunre, the officer in charge of Anti-Kidnapping Squad and local hunters along with vigilante members, had been combing the bush for three days before rescuing the victims.

The kidnappers, it was learnt, abandoned the victims when they discovered that the search team was closing in on them.

Initially, only the quarry workers were kidnapped, it was later learnt that the kidnappers added the fourth victim, Adeoti, when they saw her in a Uber car with the driver.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state Mr Adewale Osifeso, said “Yes, I can confirm to you that they have been rescued unhurt.”

Osifeso recalled that their release was made possible by continuous combing of neighbouring bushes and abandoned structures by combined teams of police and local vigilance members. He said efforts were on to track down the abductors.

Recall that the three quarry workers were abducted by suspected gunmen while coming out of the quarry site where they work.
