The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on Tuesday held a strategic security meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, as part of ongoing efforts to address security challenges across the state.

The closed-door meeting comes in the wake of several motions, resolutions and Matters of Urgent Public Importance deliberated upon by the House in recent weeks, particularly following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area and the recurring security incidents reported in parts of Oke-Ogun.

During the visit, Hon. Ogundoyin commended the Commissioner of Police for the positive impact he has made within a short period of his deployment to Oyo State.

He also lauded the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security across the state.

The Speaker specifically appreciated the ongoing security operations aimed at securing the safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers, expressing confidence in the commitment and professionalism of security personnel involved in the rescue efforts.

Hon. Ogundoyin used the opportunity to draw the attention of the Police Commissioner to the need for enhanced security measures in border towns and communities across Oyo State, noting that many criminal elements often exploit porous borders and remote areas to carry out kidnappings, attacks and other criminal activities.

He stressed the importance of strengthening intelligence gathering, increasing patrol operations and sustaining proactive policing strategies to safeguard lives and property, especially in vulnerable communities.

Discussions during the meeting also focused on the implementation of several resolutions recently adopted by the Oyo State House of Assembly in response to growing security concerns in different parts of the state.

Hon. Ogundoyin reaffirmed the commitment of the Oyo State House of Assembly to supporting all lawful and proactive measures aimed at enhancing security across the state.

He emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of the legislature and expressed optimism that continued collaboration between the Assembly, security agencies and the Executive Arm of Government would further strengthen peace, stability and public confidence across Oyo State.
