The Ogun State Police Command has deployed its Ogun School Protection Squad across the state as schools resume academic activities, in a major move to strengthen security around educational institutions.
The deployment is part of the strategic policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which prioritises proactive, preventive and community-oriented policing.
The initiative is designed to increase police visibility around schools, protect pupils, teachers and other school personnel, secure school infrastructure and ensure rapid response to emerging security threats.
Ogun School Protection Squad Targets School Security Threats
The Ogun School Protection Squad is expected to work closely with school communities to identify potential threats and gather actionable intelligence.
Police personnel deployed under the initiative will also maintain close contact with school authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate the early reporting and prevention of security incidents.
The Command said some schools are scheduled to resume at later dates, with the protection measures expected to cover institutions across the state as academic activities continue.
Police, PCRC Strengthen Safer School Initiative
As part of efforts to strengthen the safer school initiative, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, recently received an executive delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta.
The delegation was led by the State Chairman of the PCRC Safe School Club, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal.
Discussions focused on deepening cooperation between the police, school authorities, parents, students and community stakeholders to identify, report and prevent security threats in and around schools.
CP Bode Ojajuni Commends PCRC Partnership
CP Bode Ojajuni commended the PCRC Safe School Club for its initiative and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening the partnership.
The Commissioner directed members of the Ogun School Protection Squad to remain vigilant, maintain regular engagement with school communities and respond promptly to credible security information.
He stressed the importance of proactive policing in anticipating threats and preventing incidents before they occur.
Police Urge Schools, Parents to Report Suspicious Activities
The Ogun State Police Command urged school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around educational institutions.
The Command specifically urged residents to follow its message:
“SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.”
Residents were advised not to ignore suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or activities around schools, stressing that early reporting could help prevent security incidents.
Ogun School Protection Squad Provides Emergency Response
The Command assured residents that the Ogun School Protection Squad, working alongside the PCRC and other relevant stakeholders, remains prepared to protect schools, prevent threats and respond swiftly to emergencies across the state.
It charged the residents to contact the Ogun State Police Command through the Gateway Shield Emergency Line: 08000009111.
The Command said the initiative is aimed at creating a safer environment where pupils, teachers and other members of the school community can carry out their activities without fear.
Ogun Police Reinforce Commitment to Safer Schools
The deployment of the Ogun School Protection Squad represents another step by the Ogun State Police Command towards strengthening community-based policing and improving security around schools.
Through sustained collaboration with the PCRC, school authorities, parents and communities, the Command said it will continue to prioritise early threat detection, intelligence gathering, prevention and swift intervention to keep schools across Ogun State safe.
