The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
‎
The announcement was contained in a statement by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Tuesday.

‎The Minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.
‎
‎In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Muslims to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice associated with the fasting period.
‎
‎He called on Nigerians to reflect these virtues beyond Ramadan in order to foster national unity and harmony.
‎
‎Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens, irrespective of religious background, to use the festive period to pray for peace, unity, and continued progress in the country.
‎
‎He further advised Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged in line with the spirit of the season.
‎
‎The declaration, according to the government, underscores its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence as millions of Muslims across the country prepare to celebrate one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar
