AFCON: Nigeria Defeat Host Nation, Records First Win

Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the second match of Group A African Cup of Nations defeated the host nation, Ivory Coast by a lone goal.

The match was played at the Alassana Quatara Stadium on Thursday.

In the first half of the encounter, both countries failed to find the back of the net.

Nigeria missed a good chance to take the lead in the first half after Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen failed to convert a through pass from Samuel Chukwueze and kicked the ball over the bar.

However, in the second half of the game, Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong gave Nigeria the lead through a powerful penalty.

The result moved Nigeria to the second position behind the Equatorial Guinea of Group A with four points from two games.

Super Eagles will face Guinea-Bissau, which are in fourth position with no point in the last match of the group game.
