Makinde Commends Accreditation, Voting Exercise, Says ‘Democracy Has Come To Stay’

As the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections get underway, Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has charged the people of the state exercise their civic responsibility.

The governor cast his vote at polling units 1, ward 11 in Ibadan North East Local Government area, Abayomi, Iwo-Road.

His wife, Tamunominini also did the same at Army Children Primary School, polling unit 8 also in ward 11, Iwo-Road at about 10:30am.

The governor, after he cast his vote at about 10:20am, stated that the accreditation so far is okay and the people should be patience to perform their civic responsibility.

“The process is on, accreditation was seamless and people are conducting themselves very well. The people of the state should be patience to exercise thier civic responsibility.

“With what I have observed so far I think democracy has come to stay in Nigeria,” Makinde said.

So far, the turn out was impressive at the various polling units visited so far. However, late arrival of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and election materials especially in Ibadan North Local Government was seems causing delay.

In his reaction towards the late arrival of staff and election materials, Oyo State Public Relations Officer of INEC, Mr. Awolowo, assured that the staff will soon arrive and the whole process will commence.

At about 10am, the staff with election materials started arriving at polling units, while accreditation and voting have commenced in areas like University of Ibadan, Sango, Bodija, Awolowo, Mokola among others.
