Adamawa Speaker, Iya-Abbas Chops ‘Breakfast’, He Was Sacked By Court As Senatorial Candidate

Aminu Iya-Abbas

The Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Iya-Abbas has been served ‘breakfast’ by the Federal High Court Sitting in Yola as he was sacked as one of the senatorial candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The Court nullified his primary election to represent Adamawa Central Senatorial District at the next year general elections.

Justice Abdulaaziz Anka, in his ruling on Monday in the suit filed by Mohammed Modibbo against the PDP and four others, voided the senatorial primary for Adamawa Central conducted by the PDP.

Justice Anka, in his ruling, held that the participation of the fourth defendant, Chairman, Governing Council Adamawa State University, Auwal Tukur, as a political appointee without compliance to the new Electoral Act 2022 violated the process; hence “the entire process is hereby nullified.”

However, the Speaker is provided with option to appeal the judgment.
