
Rising from its emergency meeting, the Motor Dealers Association of Nigeria (MODAN) has expelled two of its members over alleged embezzlement and acting contrary to the constitution of the Association.
In a release jointly signed by the Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Sulaimon Musibau and Acting Secretary, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Adewale, disclosed that the two members, Alhaji Mutiu Adebayo, who is the former Interim Zonal Chairman, Iwo-Road/Idi-Ape Zone and Mr. Elijah Wale Omo-Adigun, 2nd State PRO were expelled for illegal issuance of the association ‘s identity cards and number plate which runs into millions of naira.
According to the Association, “following the State Executive Working Committee meeting held today, Friday, 4th March, 2022 at the State Secretariat Headquarters, New Garage, Akala Express Way, Ibadan, the following officers are hereby expelled from the association (MODAN) with immediate effect due to the anti-association activities.
Meanwhile, the Association, therefore, warned members of the public not to transacts business with Alhaji Mutiu Adebayo and Mr. Elijah Wale Omo-Adigun on behalf of the Association.
“The public is hereby warned not to transacts any business with them on behalf of the Association, MODAN as from now, whoever does, do so at his/her own risk,” the statement reads.
Some of the members in attendance include the Association Adviser, Elder Segun Oke-Owo, Acting Treasurer, Alhaji Akeem Azeez, PRO, Alhaji Akeem Obinna, Chairman Disciplinary Committee, Alhaji Sulaimon Agarawu, and Chairman, Oke-Ado Zone, Chief Bosun Tugboboh.
Other are Alhaji Adebayo Sowobi, Hon. Olakunle Akintola, Pastor James Adedeji, Alhaji Oyebode Aliu, Pastor Kola Ajisekola, Muhammed Adeleke, Chief Sunday Adetunji and Mr. Remi Adewale.
The Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Sulaimon Musibau, therefore, enjoined members to continue with their lawful business as every measure has been put under control.
In a related development, following the decision of the management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to suspend the Vehicle Identification Policy introduced on imported vehicles, the Motor Dealers Association (MODAN), Oyo State has commended stakeholders for rising to the situation.
The Oyo State branch of the association hinted that the meeting they held with the authority of the Nigeria Customs Service has yielded fruitful results, by suspending the newly introduced policy on imported vehicles.
According to the press release signed by the Association Acting Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahid Olawale on behalf of the State Chairman, Alhaji Sulaimon Musibau, commended the action of ANCLA and other concerned stakeholders for promptly rising up to the situation.
The Chairman further informed that the decision by the Motor Dealers’ Association to shelve the plan protest to the Oyo State Zonal office of the Nigeria Customs Service was as a result of the fruitful outcome of the meeting between their representatives the Customs Service.
According to the release, “further to our earlier release that there will be protest rally to NCS Oyo Zonal office on Thursday 3 March, 2022.
“We want to inform you that our representatives were at the Customs/Stakeholders town hall meeting held recently at CTC, Ikeja Lagos State and after intensive deliberations, the management team of Customs Service Zone A led by the ACG Mrs. Aremu and other two ACGs from Abuja, for Modernization and T & T, it was resolved that the position of the concerned stakeholders will be presented before the CG, Rtd. Col. Alli at the management meeting in Abuja Headquarters of Customs Service with a promise that by Friday 4 March, 2022 a policy statement will be issued on the controversial VIN – Valuation.
“As a result of this development, the State Working Committee of our Association has decided to step down the scheduled protest rally .
“In the meantime, we need to commend the action of ANCLA and other concerned stakeholders for promptly rising up to the situation on the ground, their strike actions at Tincan Ports had been a positive one that forced the management of NCS to listen to our yearnings on the sadistic and draconian VIN – Valuation policy being introduced on the imported vehicles and goods. ANCLA action is highly commendable, kudos to its leadership.
“We thank you all for your understanding and cooperation at this trying time, it’s our belief that we shall succeed in this present struggle,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has suspended the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), valuation policy recently introduced by the service on imported vehicles for 30 days.
The policy which handed to annimpasse between licenced Customs Agents and the service had led to the shutdown of port activities for the past two weeks.
This was confirmed by the secretary general, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Mukaila Babatunde, He informed that the suspension will enable importers whose vehicle has been trapped to clear their vehicle.
“the VIN valuation policy had been suspended by Customs for the next 30 days. This is better, so, that vehicles can leave the various terminals and we will see what they will come out with.
“We are not against VIN valuation policy, but, against the outrageous value. We have asked them to consider accidented vehicles and mileage of vehicles imported as stated in the Customs Law.
“So, let’s see what they will come out with in the next 30 days,” Babatunde however enjoined the motor dealers to observe and see further actions after the 30 days expiration.
