The Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has reacted to the report of alleged missing N4 million and fire incident at his lodge recently.
The Media Adviser to the Speaker, Oyetunji Oyekunle, while reacting to the news making the rounds on behalf of the Speaker that some aides of the Speaker, set a part of his lodge ablaze and carted away a sum of N3.5 million. He described the report as a misunderstanding of the actual facts.
Oyetunji disclosed that, contrary to the report that it was Speaker’s lodge that gutted fire, the apartment that gutted fire was the one allocated to the Personal Assistant to the Speaker, who he said was traveling on that fateful day.
The Media Adviser also countered the claim that some aides to the Speaker were the one who was responsible for the fire incident, set a part of his lodge ablaze and carted away 3.5 million naira.
He explained that the security men attached to the Speaker’s lodge, his cook and some personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on duty swung into action to quench the fire.
Oyetunji added that the people in question claimed that a sum of five hundred thousand was recovered from the apartment during the rescue mission.
The Media Adviser noted that the amount disclosed by PA was to the tune of N4 million, earmarked by the Speaker for certain groups of people, which is contrary to the amount disclosed by the aides.
He confirmed that Hon. Ogundoyin, however, ordered for the arrest of staff involved for interrogation.
Oyetunji faulted the report where it said a sum of N500, 000 was recovered by the police from the suspects, clarifying that the money was recovered from the apartment during rescue operation by the suspects.
He revealed that the release of the people involved was influenced by the Speaker after intervention from different quarters especially from the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN).
