The Federal Government has introduced the SPARK USSD code (347333#) to help Nigerians access consumer loans using basic mobile phones without requiring internet connectivity or smartphones.
The new service, unveiled by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), is designed to expand access to consumer credit, particularly for first-time borrowers and Nigerians with little or no formal credit history.
However, Nigerians interested in the SPARK loan service have been advised to await its wider rollout, as the USSD platform has not yet been confirmed to be fully operational nationwide.
CREDICORP expects the service to become more widely available before the end of 2026.
What Is the SPARK USSD Code for Loans?
The SPARK USSD code is 347333#. It was introduced as a simple mobile-based platform through which Nigerians can access consumer credit without needing a smartphone or internet connection.
The initiative aims to help individuals establish repayment records, which could strengthen their credit profiles and improve their chances of accessing other financial services in the future.
SPARK is part of CREDICORP’s broader effort to make consumer credit more accessible to Nigerians, especially individuals who have traditionally been excluded from formal lending systems.
Although the USSD code has been unveiled, prospective borrowers should note that nationwide availability and the full operational details of the service are yet to be confirmed.
What Can Nigerians Finance Through CREDICORP?
CREDICORP’s broader consumer credit programmes cover five major areas designed to help Nigerians access essential goods, household equipment and productive assets.
These include Mobility- Compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and electric vehicles, Digital Devices: Laptops, smartphones and tablets, Energy Solutions: Generators and solar panels, Home Improvement: Furniture, household appliances and building materials, Life Essentials: Healthcare, clothing, food and beverages.
These categories represent CREDICORP’s wider consumer credit priorities. However, the corporation has not confirmed that all these products and services will be available for financing through SPARK specifically.
FG Unveils SPARK Loan Service in Aba
According to reports by Vanguard, sighted by PUNCH Online, SPARK was unveiled at CREDICORP’s CREDICORP for All showcase in Aba, Abia State.
The event highlighted consumer credit opportunities for more than 1,000 residents and brought together beneficiaries, participating financial institutions, local vendors and government representatives.
Activities included demonstrations of credit access for market women and traders, presentations on the YouthCred initiative for young Nigerians, and the showcasing of credit-backed tricycles for transport operators.
The event also featured locally assembled tricycles made available through CREDICORP’s Securing Consumer Access for Local Enterprises initiative, known as S.C.A.L.E.
CREDICORP Explains Purpose of SPARK Loans
CREDICORP Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba, said the initiative was designed to extend consumer credit beyond traditional financial institutions.
According to him, consumer credit should be accessible to every working Nigerian rather than remaining an opportunity reserved for a limited number of people.
He explained that the Aba showcase demonstrated how credit could support market women, provide financial opportunities for young people, help transport operators acquire productive assets and enable Nigerians to begin building their credit histories through SPARK.
Meanwhile, Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu, chief principal to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, said the state government was creating an enabling environment for businesses, investments and responsible consumer lending.
Representing the governor at the event, Mba-Uzoukwu said the state’s efforts would make it easier for initiatives such as CREDICORP to support traders, young people and working families.
Similarly, Armstrong Ume Takang, Managing Director of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated and a CREDICORP board member, said the showcase demonstrated how government policies could translate into economic opportunities for citizens.
CREDICORP Has Disbursed Over ₦53.5bn in Consumer Credit
CREDICORP disclosed that it had facilitated more than ₦53.5 billion in consumer credit for over 351,000 Nigerians since commencing operations.
Women account for approximately 59 per cent of the beneficiaries, highlighting the corporation’s efforts to improve access to financing among different groups.
The introduction of SPARK is expected to further support this objective by providing a simplified entry point into the consumer credit system, particularly for Nigerians who may not have established credit histories.
Is the SPARK Loan a Grant or a Loan?
The SPARK programme is a credit service, not a government grant.
Nigerians who successfully obtain loans through the service will be expected to repay the borrowed money according to the agreed repayment terms.
As of the announcement, CREDICORP had not provided comprehensive public details regarding SPARK’s loan limits, interest rates, repayment periods or complete eligibility requirements.
Prospective applicants should therefore wait for official information before making financial commitments.
How to Apply for the SPARK Loan in Nigeria
Interested Nigerians can take note of the unveiled SPARK USSD code, 347333#, as the designated access code for the service.
However, the platform has not yet been confirmed to be fully operational nationwide. Nigerians should therefore await official rollout announcements and instructions from CREDICORP before assuming they can successfully complete a loan application.
Applicants should also avoid unofficial websites, agents or individuals demanding upfront payments in exchange for guaranteed loan approval.
The introduction of the SPARK USSD code represents another step in the Federal Government’s efforts to expand consumer credit access in Nigeria.
By allowing Nigerians to access credit through basic mobile phones, the initiative could help first-time borrowers establish credit histories and improve their access to financial services.
However, prospective borrowers should watch for CREDICORP’s official announcement on the nationwide rollout, loan requirements, interest rates and repayment conditions before applying.
