Ahead of the 2027 general election, the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has rallied the Oyo State Muslim community in support of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekannbi.
Governor Makinde made this call at the Hijrah 1448 Luncheon held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
He assured the Muslim community that he would not interfere with the decisions of his successor’s administration.
“I do not want to be seen as an obstacle to new leadership,” he said.
The Governor emphasized that leadership must be about service, not control. He urged citizens, especially the Muslim community, to demand accountability, clear plans, commitments, and programmes that would promote development, peace, and prosperity from those seeking political office.
He also challenged his political opponents to tell the people of Oyo State what they intend to do if elected, rather than attempting to discredit the achievements of his administration.
Governor Makinde reiterated that his administration would continue to prioritize decisions that benefit the state until the end of his tenure. He also appreciated the people for their support and prayers.
The guest lecturer at the occasion, Sheikh Ismail Gbámọlàdá, spoke on the importance of good leadership. He emphasized the need for leaders to govern with integrity, accountability, justice, and the interest of the people at heart.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Saka Balogun, called for continuous prayers for the state and the country. He urged Muslims and other residents to remain committed to peace, unity, and peaceful coexistence.
