An organized group of concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency of Oyo State have pledged their support for Morufat Ajibola Ishaq as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections, describing the nomination of Ibraheem Ayoade Iyiola as a nullity.
The aggrieved members, predominantly youths, spoke on Saturday during a popular current affairs programme on an Ibadan radio station. They lamented an alleged plot by anti-democratic elements within the party to upturn the outcome of the May 16, 2026 primary, which produced Morufat Ishaq as the party’s standard bearer.
Comrade Kazeem Akindeji, coordinator of the group, expressed the dissatisfaction of stakeholders over what he called the undemocratic actions of the Otunba Moses Alake-Adeyemo-led state executive in allegedly thwarting the wish of the majority. He said Morufat Ishaq was the duly elected candidate voted for by bona fide members in the primary election.
He stated that “Bibire,” as Ishaq is fondly called by party faithful, convincingly won the internal poll conducted and supervised by agents of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the 22 wards of Ibadan North East/South East Local Government Areas. He added that no election was held in Wards 11 and 12 of the constituency due to logistical challenges, as announced by party officials.
Akindeji further said Ishaq’s emergence was not through a consensus arrangement among leaders or fellow aspirants, despite agitation that the ticket be zoned to Ibadan North East Local Government Area, which has not produced the representative since the ACN/APC regained control of the state government in 2011. He said her emergence was based on popularity proven through a transparent process applauded by party members who believe in her capacity and vision to represent the federal constituency in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
“It is so disappointing that our great party, long known for fairness and justice, can be dragged this low by infiltrators who thrive in manipulation and regression. These people, with conservatism deeply ingrained in their DNA, seek to rubbish the hard work of committed party members who have been propagating the 2027 project across the nooks and crannies of the state,” he decried.
He condemned the attempted imposition of Ibraheem Iyiola, who he said has no roots in either of the two local government areas of the constituency, adding that party members rejected him and others with their votes during the primary election.
The group appealed to leaders across Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency, the Oyo South Senatorial District Executive, the Otunba Moses Alake-Adeyemo-led Oyo State Executive, and the Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda-led National Executive of the APC to urgently correct the anomalies.
They urged the party to restore Morufat Ishaq’s mandate immediately, promising to rekindle their passion and mobilize voters across the 24 wards to deliver unprecedented votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
