Governorship Poll: Oyo Speaker, Lawmakers Endorse Makinde-Anointed Candidate

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on Wednesday led members of the House to endorse Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi as the governorship aspirant of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎The endorsement was made during a strategic breakfast meeting held at Adekanmbi’s Iyaganku GRA residence in Ibadan. The gathering brought together APM lawmakers in the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly and focused on strengthening party unity, building early political structures, and coordinating ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

‎Addressing the gathering, Ogundoyin described Adekanmbi as an experienced political figure capable of sustaining good governance and providing purposeful leadership for the state.

‎“We believe Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi possesses the experience, exposure, and political understanding required to move Oyo State forward. Our gathering here today is not just symbolic; it reflects our confidence in his ability to unite stakeholders and provide inclusive leadership for the people of the state,” Ogundoyin said.

‎He added that the lawmakers’ support was based on their collective conviction in Adekanmbi’s leadership capacity, political maturity, and understanding of governance.

‎Ogundoyin stressed the need for early consultations and grassroots mobilization, noting that internal cohesion and strategic planning would be key to the success of political parties in 2027.

‎In his remarks, Adekanmbi thanked the lawmakers and party stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, describing the endorsement as a call to greater service. He pledged to provide inclusive and people-oriented leadership if elected, and promised to consolidate on Governor Seyi Makinde’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic expansion, and youth empowerment.

‎“I am deeply honoured by this show of confidence and solidarity from the lawmakers and party leaders. This endorsement is not just about me as an individual, it is about our collective aspiration to build a more prosperous, united, and progressive Oyo State,” he said.

‎Adekanmbi assured members that he would continue consultations across all geopolitical zones in the state to ensure inclusiveness and unity within the party. He also urged political actors to embrace issue-based politics and avoid divisive tendencies.

Some lawmakers at the meeting described the endorsement as timely, saying early alignment among stakeholders would help reduce internal disagreements and strengthen the APM in Oyo State ahead of the next governorship election.
