INEC Chairman, Amupitan Promises To Improve Electoral Process

The Senate has confirmed Prof. Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This was followed after he passed through the screening at the plenary session on Thursday.

Amupitan, a professor of law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, succeeds Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who served as Chairman of the electoral body for 10 years.

He is from Kogi, North Central region and at present Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos.

Prof. Amupitan, while addressing the Senate, pledged to use drones and work with relevant agencies like the National Identity Management Commission to improve the electoral process.
