The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, witnessed Shooting Stars Sports Club’s thrilling 1-0 victory over Plateau United on matchday seven.
The boys’ tenacity was rewarded with $5,000 on Sunday night at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Ibadan, for their outstanding perseverance and resolve from the first kickoff until the final whistle.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who witnessed the thrilling encounter alongside former deputy governor, Taofeek Arapaja, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, some members of the Oyo Assembly, and other top officials, commended the players for their courage and fighting spirit.
The governor however, thanked the ardent 3SC supporters for their steadfast support and urged them to keep supporting the club as the season goes on.
With an injury-time header from Ayodele Ismail, which was masterfully set up by Kabiru Tijani, the Oluyole Warriors, who had previously won back-to-back games before Sunday’s match, maintained their momentum and defeated a resilient Plateau United team to take all three points.
Adams and Ismail, who were introduced by Coach Nurudeen Aweroro in the 72nd minutes, tactically gave the 3SC attack new vitality.
Shooting Stars applied constant pressure until Ismail’s heroics in the closing moments drove the home crowd into a frenzy of ecstasy, despite a resolute Plateau United defense.
The team’s spirits were raised by the win, which also strengthened their status in the league.
Speaking after the match, Coach Aweroro stressed the significance of keeping up this momentum and honing their tactics for impending obstacles as the next game approaches.
“As the players prepared for their next game, the atmosphere was electric with anticipation. Everyone knew that building on this success would be crucial, not just for our league standings, but for the confidence that comes from a united and determined squad,” the coach noted.
