Nigerians have been reacting to the live performance of the guest Fuji artist, Taye Adebisi Currency at the official coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Arusa 1.
Comments on several social media platforms indicated that Baba Honourable’s performance was far below expectations especially for the magnitude of the event.
The lyrics by Taye Currency, who was the guest artist at the event, triggered backlash following his “were la fi n wo were,” lyrics meaning “we used insanity to cure insanity.”
The controversy trailing the lyrics has pushed the musician to the top trends on the X, Instagram and Facebook platforms.
Many commentators revealed that the musician doesn’t fit the event of that magnitude, however, suggested that the Fuji caliber of King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) or King Saheed Osupa should have been a better option, based on their consistent track record and deep understanding of Yoruba cultural music.
While many explained that there were not doubting the ability of Taye Currency, disclosed that his street orientation does not and his choice of songs did not align with the grandeur and cultural significance of such a historic occasion.
