The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State Council, Pastor (Comrade) Kayode Martins, has appreciated the Ibadan Grammar School Old Students’ Association (IGSOSA), Home Branch, for the Award of Excellence bestowed on him.
Martins, who is also an alumnus of the school, received the honour during the bimonthly meeting of the association, held inside the Alayande Hall, Ibadan Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

This month’s edition of the meeting was hosted by the 1989-1994 (Dependables) Set, of which the awardee was one of them.
Speaking before the presentation of the award, the Chairman, IGSOSA, Home Branch, Prof. ‘Siji Adeokun, expressed his happiness on the choice of the awardee, who he said his recognition was based on his service to the nation and Alma Mater.
”Mountaineer Honourary Award of Excellence to Pastor (Comrade) Kayode Olusegun Martins, in recognition and appreciation of your selfless service to God, our fatherland and our Alma Mater.”
The Chairman called for more support from all members of the association, Home Branch, as regards the proposed project, which he said focuses on improved academic facilities for current and future students and to preserve a historic part of the school infrastructure.
Prof. Adeokun appreciated the host set for continuing upholding the legacies of the school.
In his appreciation speech, He thanked God for being one of the products of the prestigious citadel of learning, saying that he is always proud of the school anywhere he finds himself.
While dedicating the award to his classmates of the 1989-1994 Set, Comrade Kayode Martins acknowledged the effort of one of the Council of Elders of the association and his father-in-law, Baba Chief Taiwo Osungbaro, who he said motivated him to be attending the meeting.
He also appreciated the President and members of the 1989-1994 Set for standing by him when he lost his beloved father, Pa Olusegun Martins.
The Chairman of the NLC confessed that experiences during their time in the school are memorable and the memories he shared with his classmates still linger.
Martins, therefore, promised the leadership of the IGSOSA Home Branch to use his connection to raise support for the proposed project for the school.
The host used occasion to commit a sum not below N500,000:00 to the proposed project, which is the renovation of the school’s old library and adjacent classrooms.
The General Secretary of the Home Branch of the association, Reverend Seyi Akinlade read the citation of the awardee.
