The Director General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has announced that 59,786 inmates across Correctional Centres in the country have been enrolled and issued National Identification Numbers.
Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
Coker-Odusote indicated that the initiative, in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service, is part of efforts to promote inclusivity in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement added that 74% of inmates nationwide have now been enrolled, with the remaining expected to be captured in the ongoing exercise.
The Commission also announced plans to begin ward-level enrollment across Nigeria, aiming to bring the National Identity System closer to the grassroots.
NIMC Director General reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working with partners to ensure every Nigerian and legal resident gets a NIN.
