Olympic Games Medal-less Outing: Sports Minister Apologizes

Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh

Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh has apologized to Nigerians following the poor outing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Minister, who indicted the leadership of sporting federations for the lackluster performance, emphazised the need for system restructure at the federations to get the best athletes to represent Nigeria and get the desired medals in the next games.

Enoh assured that some government officials will be relieved of their responsibilities if findings prove that they contributed to Nigeria’s medal-less outing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Minister gave the assurance while featuring on Channels Television programme, Politics Today on Wednesday.

He said all of the issues that arose at the games would be interrogated.

“All of those things, I am going to engage, I am going to interrogate.

“You don’t fire unless you interrogate. I have always stated my determination that I am not going to allow things to lie low; I am going to take them up one by one.”

“Well, if that is what it takes; if my findings and interrogations get to that point that people become liable, people become responsible, for the kind of negative publicity that we had at the Olympics, why not?”

Enoh further said the different sporting federations in the country need comprehensive reforms for efficient sports development.

“I’ve always stated that we need to reform our federations,” he said.
