The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the National Assembly’s Committee on Constitution Amendment to review the memorandum submitted by Dr. Niran Oyekale and Prince Akinloye Oyeniyi to change the status of all existing Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ogbomoso land to full-fledged Local Governments and be captured in the Constitution.
The House through a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Oriire state constituency, Hon. Johnson Ogundele, said the review will give the Committee on Constitution Amendment the opportunity to include and capture Oriire South LCDA with Ahoro-Dada as its headquarters in the memorandum.
The lawmaker disclosed that Oriire South LCDA was omitted in the memorandum presented during the public hearing on Constitution amendment held at the National Assembly on September, 22nd, 2025.
Hon. Ogundele, in his prayers urged the state House of Assembly to call on the National Assembly’s Committee on Constitution Amendment to consider and accept the enlistment of the underlisted Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ogbomoso land as provided for in the Oyo State Local Government for consideration to (Further Amendment) Law, 2016 as authentic LCDAs metamorphose to full-fledged Local Governments during subsequent legislative scrutiny by the Committee:
Ogbomoso Central with headquarters at Oja-Igbo; Ogbomoso South-West with headquarters at Ajegunle Ibapon; OgoOluwa West with headquarters at Odo-Oba (Oja-Oba); and Surulere North with headquarters at Orile-Igbon.
Others are Surulere South with headquarters at Oko; Oriire South with headquarters at Ahoro-Dada; and Oriire North with headquarters at Olokoto.
“Aware that, the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution amendment organized a public hearing on September, 22nd 2025 to receive memoranda from members of the public, constituents, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), academia, Labour Unions and others. At the Public hearing, Dr. Niran Oyekale and Prince Akinloye Oyeniyi from Ogbomoso North submitted a memorandum proposing the creation of additional Local Governments in Oyo State particularly in the Ogbomosho axis. They prayed to the Committee for the adoption of existing Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ogbomoso land as created by the Oyo State Local Government (Further Amendment) Law, 2016.
”Further aware that their submission conspicuously omitted Oriire South LCDA with headquarters at Ahoro-Dada, which is legally recognized in the Oyo State Local Government (Further Amendment) Law, 2016
The Law created the following LCDAs within Ogbomoso Zone:
i. Ogbomoso Central with headquarters at Oja-Igbo;
ii. Ogbomoso South-West with headquarters at Ajegunle Ibapon;
iii. OgoOluwa West with headquarters at. Odo-Oba (Oja-Oba);
iv. Surulere North with headquarters at Orile-Igbon;
V. Surulere South with headquarters at Oko;
vi. Oriire South with headquarters at Ahoro-Dada; and
vii. Oriire North with headquarters at Olokoto
”Observes Mr. Speaker Sir, one cannot imagine the damage this conspicuous omission of Oriire South LCDA from the proposal submitted would have caused the people of Oriire and Ogbomoso land if proactive steps are not taken to address the situation. Whatever the nefarious intention of the authors of the memorandum submitted during the public hearing of the House of Representative Committee on Constitution review, there is need to timeously nib this illegality in the bud.
Further observes, that as the legislative institutional framework and duties are sacrosanct to the survival of democratic governance, it is imperative that the sanctity and integrity of our laws made by the National Assembly and State Assemblies should be preserved and protected at all times. Hence, the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution amendment is called upon to redress the position earlier submitted and include Oriire South LCDA with the headquarters at Ahoro-Dada during consideration,” Hon. Johnson Ogundele said.
