Activities have begun at the North East Development Commission (NEDC) as delegation of the Commission conducted pre-shipment visitation today at Anhui Ankai Automobile Company Limited, a leading bus manufacturing facility in Hefei City, Anhui Province, China.
The visit was followed by the approval by President Bola Tinubu for the procurement of electric vehicles as part of the Federal Government’s drive to promote clean energy, sustainable transportation, and improved mobility in the North East region.
Leading the delegation were His Excellency, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, Minister Of State Steel, Minister of State for Regional Development, MD/CEO Mohammed Alkali and Hon. Usman Zannah, Chairman, House Committee on NEDC.
The team was on-site to inspect the procured NEDC e-buses and accessories in preparation for shipment to Nigeria.
Other members of the delegation include
ED Operations, Abdulsalam Yahaya Ahmed, Chief Mutiu Lawal, Benjamin Westley, Commission Secretary, Engr. Abubakar Ali, Ag.GM RR Ali Umar, Head, Audit Department. The delegation expressed satisfaction with the quality, technology, and readiness of the buses and commended Anhui Ankai Automobile Company Limited for meeting international standards in manufacturing and assembly.
This procurement marks a significant step in the NEDC’s commitment to deploying modern, eco-friendly transportation solutions that will enhance connectivity, reduce emissions, and support economic growth across the North East.
