*Harps On Accountability, Quality Projects
The Oyo State House of Assembly has begun the oversight function to the local governments and Local Council Development Areas across the state.
The exercise, is part of the constitutional mandate of the state House of Assembly to ensure good governance and accountability.
The lawmakers were divided into the three senatorial zones in the state.
The exercise is aimed at investigating the financial activities, such as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) performances and expenditure of the LGAs / LCDA’s.
It is also focused on inspection of ongoing and completed projects including 30km internal roads, budget performance, revenue, income and expenditure, earth moving equipments, SUBEB-primary school projects, primary health care (PHC), meeting with security architecture of the local government, meeting with one king in each Local government, and other capital projects.
Addressing the political heads and career staff at Ogbomoso South Local Government, the overall Chairman for the exercise, who also doubled as the Chairman House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours, Hon. Akintunde Olajide, declared that the oversight is part of the lawmakers’ efforts to ensure effective utilisation of resources and enhance development at the grassroots level.
“The state legislators are committed to ensuring that the LGAs and LCDAs adhere to the principles of good governance and accountability, and this oversight visit is a significant step towards achieving this goal.”
Hon. Olajide stated further that the present administration in Oyo State under His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde is making serious efforts to improve the standard of living of every individual, hence the need for local government chairmen to key into the agenda of the governor and bring the dream of a new Oyo State into reality.
”The tenth Assembly in Oyo State will continue working with the local governments to improve the lives of the people and promote sustainable development in the state,” the chairman concluded.
In his remarks, the team leader for Oyo North Senatorial District, Hon. Olusola Owolabi, representing Ibadan North 2 state constituency, urged the local government chairmen to prioritize accountability, transparency, and good governance in all their activities.
He emphasized the need for prudent management of resources, timely completion of projects, and provision of essential services to the public.
Speaking with political office holders at Atiba Local Government, Offa-Meta, in Oyo town and their counterparts at Sooro LCDA, Oke-Isunwin, the team leader, Oyo Central, Hon. Dele Adeola, representing Iseyin state contituency, admonished the local government chairmen to be a replica of Governor Seyi Makinde in creativity, and engaging the service of public private partnership as government can not fix everything all alone.
In their separate reactions, the Chairmen, Ogbomoso South, Atiba and Olorunsogo Local Governments, Hon. Oyedokun Timothy, Hon. Waliu Adetunji and Hon. Kazeem Olayanju, commended the leadership style of the state Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde for paving the way for rapid development of grassroots through various projects at the local government and spreading the dividends of democracy across the state.
It will be recalled that the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin recently announced the constitution of the three sub-committees for the conduct of oversight to the thirty-three local government areas and the thirty-five Local Council Development Areas in the three senatorial district of the state.
The House Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin is the team leader, Oyo South, Hon. Dele Adeola, Oyo Central and Hon. Olusola Owolabi for Oyo North Senatorial District.
