Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has become the All Progressives Congress (APC) new National Chairman.
Prof. Yilwatda replaced Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who resigned his appointment following health concerns.
His appointment comes ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday.
The decision followed the Wednesday’s late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by President Bola Tinubu, APC governors, and other key party members.
A member of the party’s National Working Committee revealed that the leadership wanted a fresh face who had not been part of the usual political circles.
The source also said Yilwatda’s religious background played a part in balancing the leadership structure of the party.
Before his current role, Yilwatda contested as APC’s governorship candidate in Plateau State during the 2023 elections.
He became Minister in 2023 and has previously served as a Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State under INEC.
