Dr. Dexter Femi Akin Alamu on Saturday emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the August 16, 2025 bye-election for the seat of Ibadan North federal constituency of Oyo State.
Dr. Akin Alamu emerged unopposed after the second aspirant, Mrs. Olaide Aderinto, stepped down for him during the party’s primary held at the Oyo ADC Secretariat, Mokola, Ibadan.
The primary was conducted by the Chairman of ADC election committee from Abuja, Barrister Emeka Igwu, and observed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Mr. Omishile Kehinde, as well as security agencies.
Mrs. Aderinto said she stepped in the best interest of the political party, expressing her readiness to support Dr. Akin Alamu during the electioneering campaign.
Barrister Emeka Igwu therefore insisted that Dr. Akin Alamu’s candidates should be affirmed by delegates, who in turn chorused ‘yes he is our choice’.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Akin Alamu commended Mrs. Aderinto for stepping down from the race, and promised to deliver the federal constituency for ADC come August 16.
He also thanked the ADC electoral committee chairman sent from Abuja, and party’s executives in Oyo state led by the Chairman, Alhaji Yinka Olona; Secretary Mr. Oluyemi Abiola; and publicity Secretary, Barrister Bimpe Adelowo.
Dr. Akin Alamu urged all ADC members to work together with him to ensure victory for the political party in the August 16 bye-election.
He promised to sponsor a social welfare bill that will give benefits to Nigerian citizens, if elected into the green chambers of the National Assembly.
Head of INEC representatives, Mr. Omishile, said his team was at the ADC’s primary to observe, adding that “from what we have been here today, you have complied with the guidelines”.
