Following the devastating floods that struck Mokwa Local Government Area.of Nigeria State, President Bola Tinubu has sent delegation the state.
The delegation, which was led by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Hon. Mohammed Idris, was received by the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Yakubu Garba.
The purpose according to Prof. Yilwatda, is to commiserate with the government and people of Niger State over the devastating incident.
He disclosed that the delegation had earlier met with the Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar, who led them on the spot assessment.
Prof. Yilwatda said that over 150 people lost their lives, while about 3,000 were displaced and extensive destruction of homes, roads and critical infrastructure were recorded according to NEMA.
Expressing President Bola Tinubu’s heartfelt condolences and deep concern for all affected people, the Minister assured the Niger Sate government of the Federal Government’s unwavering support.
The Minister disclosed that President Tinubu has directed additional deployment of resources to support immediate relief efforts.
”I also held discussions on areas of additional humanitarian interventions for the displaced, including long-term recovery. We are engaging international humanitarian and development partners to complement government efforts and bring lasting relief to our people in Mokwa.”
