Kano Govt Gifts Families Of Dead Athletes, Officials N1m Each

*As FRSC Corps Marshal Calls For Collective Action Against Road Carnage

‎The Kano State Government has announced a donation of one million naira to each of the families of 22 of the Kano State contingents who lost their lives on their way home from the just concluded National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

‎The State  Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam made the announcement after taking brief from the officials on Saturday.

‎He also announced a donation of food items to the bereaved families as support for the immediate burial of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has commiserated with the state government and the families of the  deceased

He disclosed that incident might have occurred as a result of fatigue and excessive speed as a result of long night trip.

‎Corps Marshal Muhammed said the tragic incident like this is to serve as a reminder of the need for collective action against road crashes in the country.

‎He, however emphasized the need for fleet operators to admonish their drivers against fatigue driving and violation of speed limits especially as they drive in the night when visibility is extremely poor.

‎The incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. at Gadar Yankifi in Garun Malam Local Government Area, involved a Toyota Coaster Bus with registration number KN041 A17 according to officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The team had reportedly been on the road since Thursday night, immediately after the conclusion of the National Sports Festival.

One of the survivors, Ado Salisu, confirmed to journalists that the accident happened just hours before they were expected to arrive in Kano.
