Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology in Oyo State, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the principal and staff of Government Technical College Orita-Aperin and Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School Aperin Oniyere to produce perpetrators of recent vandalism at the schools.
The Commissioner, who visited the schools was accompanied by Elder Ayoade Adebola, who is the Chairman, Board for Technical and Vocational Education (BOTAVED) and Mr. Olayinka Akanji, Director of Secondary Education, gave the ultimatum while addressing the staff and students during the assembly.
Prof. Adelabu expressed his displeasure at the report by the principals, indicating that no students had been identified in connection with the extensive vandalism perpetrated at the schools.
Consequently, the Commissioner, has therefore, issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the principal and staff of schools to identify and present the perpetrators or face the severe sanction.
According to Prof. Adelabu, inspections revealed significant damage, including broken sliding windows in newly renovated classrooms and laboratories, shattered louver blades in classroom blocks, and damaged windows and side glasses of both official and private vehicles.
“This incident is part of a broader concern regarding recurring vandalism and attacks in Oyo State schools, prompting stakeholders to call for enhanced security measures and community involvement to safeguard educational institutions” he said.
