Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan on Saturday secured first away in the Matchday 16 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The keenly contested fixture, played at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, saw the Oluyole Warriors bravely secure the maximum points against the hard fighting Akure gunners.
Goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal posted a man of the match performance, while Alex Aghahowa scored with a sublime finish as Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) pipped Sunshine Stars of Akure 1-0, to secure their first away win of the season.
Sunshine Stars looked nore adventurous of the two sides in the opening minutes but could not break the rock solid 3SC defense, while goalkeeper Mustapha on different occasions, pulled astonishing saves to keep his team in the game against his former club.
The decisive moment of the game came in the 28th minute when a perfect interchange of passes, saw Aliu Abubakar locate Alex Aghahowa, who finished with a flourish, outpacing a Sunshine Stars defender before slotting the ball home.
The coach Gbenga Ogunbote tutored lads fought hard to defend the goal till the end of the first half.
The second half was equally well contested as Sunshine Stars threw everything into the game, in search of the equaliser but met a stiff resistance from the Oluyole Warriors.
Apparently determined to end their winless run on the road, Shooting Stars kept thwarting the efforts of their hosts and also pressed to add to their tally.
The ding dong affair continued till referee Faisal Inuwa brought the tie to an end after 90 minutes plus five added.
The win takes the Oluyole Warriors’ point haul to 24 from 16 matches, with the team playing host to Kano Pillars in a matchday 17 fixture next Sunday.
